Van of the Month: Weinsberg CaraHome 600DKG
Camperco delves into why the Weinsberg CaraHome 600DKG is holding its own against some of the leaders in the 6 Berth motorhome category.
Weinsberg may not be a celebrity in the world of motorhome manufacturers, but their intelligent design and quality manufacturing mean it should be a strong contender for your shortlist. Whilst Weinsberg begins to make its entry into the UK, the brand has been making waves across Europe as the competitively priced sister of Knaus motorhomes. Part of the Knaus-Tabbert group and manufactured in the same factory as Knaus in Bavaria, it’s clear that Weinsberg is not a brand to dismiss.
Knaus motorhomes are synonymous with quality, and they haven’t forgotten this in their design and build of Weinsberg motorhomes. Whilst Knaus-Tabbert categorises Weinsberg as their entry-level range, there is no compromise on quality with all models built with durability and safety in mind without compromising on style, practicality and comfort.
Chassis: Fiat Ducato | Engine: Diesel 130Bhp | Length: 6/47M | Width: 2.30M | Height: 3.24M | Weight: 2.8T | Sleeps: 6 | Travels: 6 | Includes: Crusie Control, Air Con, Sat Nav & Rear-View Camera
The Weinsberg CaraHome 600DKG is a six-berth overcab coachbuilt based on the Fiat Ducato 130bhp in the popular rear bunk bed layout. The central dinette area has four travel seats and converts into a double bed and upfront, there are two berths in the bright overhead cab area. With ample kitchen facilities and large garage storage on top of all the expected facilities, the 600DKG offers everything a family could need in a motorhome at excellent value for money.
The 600DKG Fiat Ducato base comes with rear/front axle stabiliser and wide-track chassis with central locking for the driver’s cab and the usual ABS, ESP and power-steering included. What’s special about the Weinsberg motorhomes for sale through Camperco, is the bespoke specification that has been created at the factory level. It has unrivalled facilities and amenities as standard, including integrated Satellite Navigation, DAB+ radio, Cruise Control, Reversing Camera, habitation door fly screen, twin Leisure Batteries and Scotchguard stain resistant fabrics something which other brands including Roller Team and Dethleffs charge as extra.
Design & Build
The CaraHome 600DKG has a straightforward exterior with simple black/grey decals across the side accentuating the length and helping underline the brandmark on the overhead cab.
At just 6.47m, it remains more compact and agile than competing 6 berth models making use of smart storage so as to not compromise on facilities. Well suited to the UK road network, the DKG is shorter than the Dethcleffs Trend A5887 (6.5m), Rimor Seal 7 (6.7m) and over half a metre shorter than the Italian Roller Team Zefiro 675 which spans 6.99m.
Thick, 31mm walls with generous insulation, built in frost protection which auto-activates in cold temperatures to prevent the pipes from freezing along with a gas locker suitable for 2x 11kg gas bottles makes the CaraHome 600DKG suitable for year-round travel.
There is access to the large rear garage locker from both sides of the vehicle meaning loading and unloading is easy for the whole family and you don’t need to worry about where to park.
The convenient utility locker is the go-to exterior space for all of your connections. Find your electric hook up, fresh water inlet, frost-protection valve and water drain in one place.
The interior of the Weinsberg CaraHome 600DKG is full of natural and ambient light. Whilst its length is shorter than its competitors, it still feels spacious thanks to the wooden fixtures giving it a natural style with a pleasing ambience. The off-white walls and ceilings contrasted with the Oregon Ash cabinets and furniture instantly resembles quality and doesn’t connotate entry-level interior.
Quality is seen across the Weinsberg range right down to the fixtures and closures with reinforced drawers and soft-close doors on cupboards, meaning there are fewer rattles on your road trip versus competitors like Roller Team. Smart storage is built into every area to maximise on space with even a small wardrobe adjacent to the rear bunk beds.
At the habitation door, an intelligently fitted fly screen allows you to let the fresh air in and keep the insects out as you enjoy the breeze, dining al fresco. Often found as an extra in competitor models such as Roller Team, Weinsberg include this relatively important feature as a necessary fixture for continental travel and for the British Summertime across the UK.
Kitchen & Dining
The kitchen is equipped with a large 110l fridge with separate freezer compartment, generous sink and 3-burner gas hob, perfect for cooking family meals. Camperco also includes an integrated oven & grill in the DKG specification to offer a full range of cooking options for the whole family, meaning every family member is catered for. The kitchen is complete with 240v socket outlets and an extendable countertop, to offer valuable extra space for preparing dinner.
In the dinette, there are four belted travel seats with soft, comfortable fabrics and adequate legroom. Camperco fit all DKG models with Scotchguard stain-resistant fabrics to protect against marks and stains. 240V sockets with USB connection and a dedicated leisure battery with exterior electric connection means you can stay charged and connected while on the road.
The bathroom has a mix of wooden and white plastic finishes with a Dometic cassette toilet and full shower cubicle with mirrored cabinet and roof vent with a fly screen. This stops the steam from lingering or escaping into the living area and provides nice natural light in the bathroom which can be lacking in similar models.
The 600DKG has spacious sleeping arrangements for the whole family. The rear transverse bunk beds are 2M in length offering ample space for the tallest members of the family. The bottom bunk bed is hinged and folds away to give you more room in the rear garage storage.
The overhead cab double bed is 2M x 1.4M with generous headroom and a nifty roof window with a blackout blind that helps you wake up to the sounds and sights of nature (if you so desire!)
Something which is much appreciated for any family motorhome for sale, Camperco have included a pull-out extension as a bespoke addition, to bring the width of the dinette bed to 1.4M. This is 0.2M wider than the Roller Team Zefiro and 0.1M wider than the Dethcleffs Trend A, meaning the whole family has ample room for a comfortable night’s sleep. Combined with the already compact design, this feature really makes the CaraHome 600DKG stand out for comfort too.
The flexible, ultra-think foam mattresses across the Weinsberg range ensure a good nights sleep.
Heating & Hot Water Systems
The Truma CP-Plus control panel has the added benefit of being able to power the heating & hot water from either the gas bottle, electric hookup or a combination of both, meaning that when you are at a campsite you don’t need to use the gas to take a hot shower or wash the dishes.
What’s interesting is the ability to connect to the Trauma CP-Plus control panel through the intelligent Truma iNet system. The iNet system gives you complete control over the motorhome from a distance via a simple SMS message. This means while the family is exploring the outdoors or going on an adventure, you can plan ahead and heat the hot water

Unlike the Roller Team Zefiro 675, the cab windows in the Weinsberg CaraHome 600DKG are fitted with pleated blinds as standard, giving you privacy and that all-important blackout effect without having to manage the frustrations of suction cups on standard thermal blinds.
